We are united in our desire to promote peace and reconciliation, says Fr Sosa after first dialogue with Buddhists
Landing in Siem Seap on the second leg of his first trip to Asia Pacific, Fr General Arturo Sosa quickly found himself in completely different setting.
From Indonesia, a predominantly Muslim country with about 350 Jesuits and many institutions and collaborators, he was now in a largely Buddhist country,
with a small cohort of 26 Jesuits working with a modest number of collaborators. It was his first time in a Buddhist country, and to visit Jesuits and partners in
mission working together in such a context, he shared in his homily on July 15 in the chapel of the Metta Karuna Reflection Centre in Siem Reap where stayed for most of his visit.

Highlights of the Visit:
The Happiness the presence of Father General brought to the whole team, which included Christians and Buddhists, people with disability, women and men, people who had been refugees in the camps, national and international members, some of whom were Jesuits.
At the ICRC/CCP legal seminar Chan Neng a survivor asked the military of Cambodia to join the Convention on Custer Munitions (CCM). The Military Representative said they were still studying the issue but he felt they would join.
The CCBL Representative said she believed Cambodia would soon see that the humanitarian suffering they caused far outweighed the military usefulness of cluster munitions.
Tun Channareth and So Not of the Cambodia Campaign to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munitions (CCBL) accompanied the new leaders of CMAA with MAPU, NPA, MAG and CMAC to the cluster munitions fields. Several dogs trained by NPA are ridding Rattanakiri of Cluster Munitions.
President Obama has stopped transferring cluster munitions to Saudi Arabia for use in Middle East.

STATEMENT FROM CCBL Mine Clearance Agencies in Cambodia are committed to collaborate and finish clearing Cambodia from its legacies of mines, cluster munitions and UXO.
Their clearance Tool Kit includes manual de-mining with metal detectors, dogs, rats and mechanical clearance machines. Operators note that different terrains and different types of weapon, indicate appropriate clearance methods for different fields. Not all tools can be used in all places.
It is possible to finish the job of clearing the mines, cluster munitions, and other UXO by 2025.
Sufficient funding is made available to the competent, dedicated clearance teams.
Operators are given full access to the border mine fields.
A body is responsible for the clearance of any residual ordinance found after 2025.

JRS Turns 35 Years - Srun Sony and Sr Denise Coghlan off to New York

November 3, 2015 _ Jesuit Refugee Service/USA will commemorate 35 years of working alongside refugees and the displaced on Dec. 1, and present Sr. Denise Coghlan, RSM with the JRS Accompany Award. Fr. Pedro Arrupe S.J. founded JRS in November 1980, in response to the exodus of refugees from Vietnam and Cambodia.

Mr. Sak Sopheak from Cambodia Campaign to Ban Landmines and Cluster Munitions will attend the 14th Meeting of States Parties of the Mine Ban Treaty in Geneva from 30 November to 4 December 2015.
Aims: to complete land clearance of mines and uxo, no new victims, sustainable victim assistance.
Cambodia has consistently pushed for progress since our 2011 Meeting of States Parties
2014 was a record year for declaring land " Mine Free "

20 young Korean high school students and their teachers arrived from Jeju Island and high school spent the day with 20 Cambodian students from our Metta Karuna village school.
Lessons in advocacy and democratization for the Cambodian students have paid off and they phone in their encounter with the Korean students said Father In Gun. Srey Mom and these teachers were very proud.
Over the years JRS/JS have built more than 50 Metta Karuna schools in the villages of Kandal, Kampong Speu, Siem Reap, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey.
Thank you to all the friends who have supported these schools since 1991.
The Reflection Centre is humming with life in August. The School of Peace, led by Mennonite Max Ediger is forming young people with a passion for peace from China, Vietnam, Papua, Indonesia, East Timor, Philippines and Cambodia.
